Review: Origins: Drink Up Intensive

Sunday, April 28, 2013

I love masks. I know that every other review that I do here tends to be a face mask; but in truth, I don't see the purpose in hiding my love for that weekly treatment that is not only relaxing, but feels fantastic on the skin. Why should I hide my love?
Really now, after my proclamation of adoration of that time-old tradition of the face mask, I've decided to bring you guys the Origins Drink Up Intensive. This nourishing treatment is perfect for those who suffer from what I like to call, "seasonally traumatic skin disorder". Meaning: skin that panics as the seasons change; whether hot-to-cold or cold-to-hot, my skin can't handle the change in temperature, humidity, allergens, etc. It essentially becomes emotionally unstable. The most common side effect of this chronic condition are dry patches. To combat these I turn to a hydrating mask such as the Origins Drink Up Intensive.

This apricot-scented thick cream is what you would use in replacement of your nightly moisturizer when you need a surge of nourishment back into your skin. After applying a thick layer, sleep the night away and wake up with beautiful luminous and nourished skin. Do I sound like an infomercial? Regardless, this shit works and feels awesome. The best part about a lot of Origins products is that you can purchase them in these smaller sizes to give them a try before committing to that serious relationship of a full-sized item.  Give it a go and let me know what you think.

Spring BBQ with Friends

Wednesday, April 24, 2013

When the the time of year comes when the sun finally starts peeking its head from behind the clouds, I immediately run outside and light up the grill. Recently, a friend of mine beat me to the punch and called me up for an impromptu backyard BBQ. We cooked up flank steak, grilled some asparagus and zucchini, and I whipped up a delicious tomato salad with some boozy sangria on the side. Here are a few pictures from a lazy saturday in the sun.

Hope you enjoyed!

Review: Maybeline On Fire Red

Thursday, April 18, 2013

The new Maybeline Vivid lipsticks are my new favorites. Today I have one of them to show you guys, Maybeline's On Fire Red. Not only is this a bright and loud lipstick, perfect for spring, but it's actually on the more wearable end of the Vivid choice. Sometimes I find it very difficult to wear lipstick because my lips can get very cracked and dry, thus making it almost impossible for clean and precise lipstick application. However, with One Fire Red and as well as the other colors in the line, the consistency is creamy and incredibly easy to apply.

I recommend taking a gander at not only On Fire Red, but as well as the other colors in the Vivids collection. There you will find colors that are usually rare on the drugstore market; colors that are perfect for the upcoming warmer months. For the price, why not get them all? Don't forget, your lips can be the perfect accessory to an outfit!

Hope you enjoyed!

A couple of the cleansers would be good for all skin types. Hope you guys enjoy!

A Weekend In The Bay

Monday, April 15, 2013

After a 12 hour drive from Portland to San Francisco, Nate, his sister and I began our 5-day vacation in the city. The trip consisted of family-time, duck-time, and eating-time. I thought I would share a few pictures from the trip. We went hiking, gorged ourselves and played the tourist.

After heading to the South Bay for the Oregon Ducks basketball game (they made it to some round of March Madness), we came back up to the city to play. The Golden Gate Bridge and Muir Woods were the stars of the trip. Stay tuned for upcoming reviews on the restaurants we tried during our stay, some old favorites and a brand new one.

There may have been a few overcast days, but overall the weather was fantastic, the food was delicious, and the company was exceptional. I love coming back home to the Bay, sometimes I forget why I left!

Hope you enjoyed!

Review: Kiehl's Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque

Friday, April 12, 2013

As you can tell, I'm obsessed with face masks. I'm constantly trying them out and I love to discover new favorites. However, today I want to talk about one that I've been in love with for over a year now and I've only mentioned it in a favorites video a while back. The Kiehl's Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Mask is my go-to "my-skin-is-clogged" treatment.

In my review for the Lush, The Sacred Truth Fresh Face Mask, I mentioned a similar mask that I felt was superior; well this is the one. Simply put this is a great clay-based mask that is perfect for drawing out the impurities and dirt from your pores. It's great to use once a week to keep breakouts at bay and then every other night when the skin is in a panic-mode.

I definitely recommend this mask for all akin types, even sensitive and irritable skin, this is the perfect cleansing mask that will not over-dry the skin but will skin combat those pesky zits. Do note that the packaging above is an older, special edition one that came out for Earth Day last year. Let me know if you guys have ever tried this mask and what you think!

Hope you enjoyed!

OOTD: Spring Dinner Date

Thursday, April 11, 2013

I got a new job this past week and Nate wanted to take me out for a celebratory meal. We had a Groupon at a new Thai place and decided that it was the perfect occasion to use it. After my first day of work, I changed out of the professional clothes and into something a lot more fun, printed floral pants! Here's a little outfit of the day for you guys.

Pants - Forever 21 | Top - H&M | Jacket - Mom's Vintage
Shoes - Forever 21 | Purse - Forever 21 | Necklace - H&M
Nails: Sally Hansen - Cherry Red

I decided to also throw on my mom's old leather jacket, a favorite that's been in my possession for almost 10 years (thanks mom). The center of attention, the pants, are a great find and have gotten me hooked on printed pants. I can't wait to find more this spring/summer season. Comment if you have any good suggestions for printed pants.

Hope you guys enjoy

NOTD: Sally Hansen Cherry Red

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

Even though spring is here and I'm loving the mint and peach nail polish, I still find myself gravitating towards that classic red nail. There is nothing more polished (no pun intended) than a perfectly painted red manicure. Now that I'm finally in the work force (YAY!), I find that I have to have a little more appropriate nail polish for day-to-day (I could probably rock whatever, but I'm new, so no crazy colors just yet). Here is one of my favorite nail polish formulas in an amazing color.

As far as this specific nail polish, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Cherry Red is a great buy. The price ranges from 2 to 3 dollars and the formula is fantastic. The brush gives great application and after one coat I had full opacity. After 5 days, the manicure has barely chipped, the color is still vivid, and I can see myself reapplying it for a second round. Overall, I definitely recommend picking up this color and any other from the line next time you are at the drugstore.

Hope you enjoyed!

Easter Weekend

Tuesday, April 9, 2013

Easter was celebrated with friends over a delicious dinner of quiche, salad, and ham. I thought I would share a few pictures from the evening. We dyed eggs with food coloring and hung out with an adorable cat, Skook.

Hope you enjoyed!

Empties: March 2013

Saturday, April 6, 2013

You would think that after months and months of doing these empties posts/videos there would come a point where the sheer quantity would slow down. Apparently not. I won't lie, I love collecting the products and watching my bag of empties grow more full as the month progresses. It's a sick satisfaction. I am a consumer. It's that simple.

Anyway, as far as the products go, I finished a few interesting skincare bits (yes, cleanser is interesting to me) and a few makeup items that always seem to shock the masses that I get through (the masses being my one friend who reads this, HI DIANA). Regardless, I hope you guys enjoyed the video and snazzy empty-product-porn.

Review: LUSH The Sacred Truth

Tuesday, April 2, 2013

One of the best parts of shopping at LUSH is knowing that every black pot you finish, you can bring it back for a free Fresh Face Mask. Thus, every item bought can be justified right? If only...
Regardless, today I bring you The Scared Truth; a mask that was sold to me as a both moisterizing and clarifying face mask. Even though I have dry skin I was looking for something that could still combat my break outs.

After getting about 6 uses out of this one pot, I can say that I won't be purchasing this face mask any time soon. It wasn't that I didn't like the product, or that I'm 100% positive that it broke me out (it may have a little), but that I have something better in my collection; surprise, surprise it's a product by Kiehl's. Later on that better product. Overall, I don't like the short shelf life and I didn't think it was anything special.

If you are in the market for a clay face mask to combat a pesky breakout, you may want to give this product a shot. However, in my book, it's not the best.

This was the first LUSH Fresh Face Mask I have used, let me know which ones you guys have tried and what you think I would like.
